Sherrell G. (Slinker) Case
May 28, 1955 – August 11, 2019
Sherrell G. (Slinker) Case, 64, of Montpelier, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 11, 2019, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne, IN., after a recent illness. Sherrell was born on May 28, 1955, at the United States Airforce Base in Vance, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Shirley Ann (Nicholson) and Robert Neil Slinker. She was the oldest of 3 siblings, including a sister, Alice Ann (Slinker) Mayer (Edwardsburg, MI) who survives, and youngest brother, Bruce Douglas Slinker, deceased.
Sherrell loved to cook and made many special dishes, but everyone’s favorite was her fried chicken. She also loved playing board and card games with her family. While she had no children of her own, Sherrell was a wonderful, fun-loving Aunt to her niece & nephew, Jamie Hinton (Merrillville, IN) and Paul Bladen (Marshall, MI). She cared for them like her own, and both grew up always looking forward to staying with and being watched by “Aunt Sherry.” She continued to be a part of the lives of her great nieces and nephews, too.
Although legally blind, Sherrell was also not averse to using new technology, being an avid user of Facebook and texting with her latest mobile phone. She was a news and weather watcher, making sure to warn family members of potential weather or other threats she picked up in the media. Sherrell was a devout Christian. She prayed, listened to hymns, and had daily devotionals. She had a large Christian Support Group and following on Facebook.
Sherrell was especially close to her sister, Alice, who dearly loved her and looked out for her throughout her life. As children, both grew up supporting each other through some very tough times, creating a special lifetime bond of love and caring that lasted to the end. She will be missed greatly by all.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, Aug. 16, 2019, at 2:00pm ET at Olive Cemetery, 61081 County Road 3, Elkhart, IN, 46517. Afterwards, attendees may gather at Papa Vino’s Restaurant, 5110 Edison Lakes Parkway, Mishawaka, IN, 46545, starting at 3:00pm ET for a light meal and to share fond memories of Sherrell, as well as to offer love and support for all who will miss her.
