Edna Smith passed away peacefully at 1:30am, on Saturday, December 15th at the age of 96 after a long battle with leukemia. Edna was born in Arkansas but was a life-long resident of Mishawaka for 65 years. On June 3 1944, she married Onnie B. Carte, he preceded her in death on December 29, 1976. She then married Charles W. Smith on August 19, 1978, he preceded her in death on June 22, 2010. She was also preceded in death her parents, Clem Edward Stoker and Lilly Bell Askren, a son, Paul E. Carter, 3 sisters, Myrt Adams, Emma Adams and June Hickman and a brother Luis Stoker. She has survived by 5 daughters, Wilma (David) Mathes, Linda Mendenhall, Michele Quebedeau, Nancy and Sharen Smith and 2 sons, Jerry (Nancy) Carter and Mark Carter. She was the proud grandmother of 17 grandchildren, 20 great grandkids and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Northpoint Vineyard Church, 14719 State Road 23, Granger, on Tuesday, December 18th, from 2 until 4:00 and 5:00 until 8:00pm. A service celebrating Edna’s life will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, December 19th in the church with Pastor Tara Wallace officiating. Bubb Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
