Bertie L. Hutchison
June 13,1932 – November 6, 2019
Bertie L. Hutchison, aka “Cookie” 87 was escorted to heaven by angels November 6, 2019.
She was preceded by her husband Vearl of 57 years, brothers Jack and Eckie Strickland, sisters Melba Bryant, and Shelva Shiver, and recently the loss of her best friend Jane Hutchison Brown, who she called “Sis”.
She moved from Georgia to Florida when she was 12 and spent the majority of her life in Pompano Beach where she attended school and was an original Pompano Beach High School “BeanPicker”. Jane invited her to a party and introduced her to her brother Vearl, where they all played “post office” and “spin the bottle” and the rest is history. They were married in 1950 at First Baptist Church Pompano. She worked at Pompano Pharmacy as a “soda jerk” until becoming a mom in 1952. Many years later she began working for Eckerd’s Drug store in Boca Raton. She retired after 15 years, while living in Lakeland, FL where they resided over thirty years, and were members of Crestview Baptist Church. After Vearl’s passing, she enjoyed time spent in Texas with her daughter, Margie then later with daughter, Wanda in Granger, IN.
Left to cherish her memory are her four children, Marjorie Tate, Wanda (John) Kouzoujian, Wesley Hutchison, and Rachel (Randy) Solomon. Nine grandchildren, Stephen Maddrey Jr., Lauri (Chris) George, J.P. Kouzoujian, Wesley Hutchison Jr., Heidi Alters, Kyle (Jamie) Patterson, Katelynn (Kris) Lovelady, Bailey (Dennis) Adams and Dillon Smith. Fifteen great grandchildren, Julian Alters, Auston and Alorra Seymour, Tyler George, Tiffany Maddrey, Aven, Brielle, and Harper Hutchison, Riley, Liyla, and William Patterson, Kaida, Kristopher, and Kolton Lovelady, and Isabella Adams. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Our family would like to express our sincere gratitude to all of the staff at Bell Tower, especially those who directly cared for mom. We cannot adequately thank each and every one of you who touched her life, but want you to know how grateful we are. A big thank you for the care our mother received from Harbor Light Hospice in the last few weeks of her life. A celebration and remembrance will be held to share memories and celebrate her life at Bell Tower in the near future.
In lieu of flowers, Bertie would love for you to remember her fondly with thoughts that will put a smile on your face, warm your heart, and to keep her family in your thoughts and prayers.
